Watermelon Agua Fresca
It’s hard to find a drink that’s more refreshing than this truly delicious Watermelon Aqua Fresca. With just three simple ingredients of watermelon, lime juice, and optional raw honey or maple syrup for additional sweetness, you will likely find yourself wanting to make this for yourself, friends, and family over and over again. Watermelon produces so much juice that you can really make a lot of this Aqua Fresca to go around.
The water in melon is nearly identical to our blood, and its sodium, potassium, and glucose are also abundant and bioavailable, making melon one of the most hydrating foods you can eat. This hydration is critical, as it helps to lower high blood pressure, among other benefits.
Limes are ultra hydrating and electrolyte-producing, because they are a top source of mineral salts and trace mineral salts. Traces of bioavailable sodium in limes are a driving force in the value they offer our bodies.
Watermelon Agua Fresca
Ingredients:
- 1 medium-sized seedless watermelon, peeled and roughly chopped
- 1/4-1/3 cup freshly-squeezed lime juice
- 3-4 tbsp raw honey or pure maple syrup (optional)
Directions:
Pass the watermelon pieces through a juicer. Pour juice in a jug and stir in the lime juice and raw honey or maple syrup. Taste and add more lime juice and sweetener if needed. Serve immediately or refrigerate until needed.
Alternatively, combine all the ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend until smooth. Strain and serve immediately or refrigerate until needed.
